Overview

Basic biomedical research is the foundation of modern medical practice and a cornerstone of Duke's renown as one of the nation's leading medical facilities.
 
Innovative science at the Duke University Medical Center (DUMC) is based out of 7 basic science and 11 clinical departments and a host of leading edge research institutes and centers, comprising one of the largest biomedical research enterprises in the country.
 
DUMC is ranked among the top five American medical schools in National Institutes of Health grant funding. Duke researchers in both basic science and clinical departments engaged in basic research interface with translational and clinical colleagues with the goal of moving fundamental scientific discoveries from the bench to the bedside.
